WHO IS BOBBY CHURCH?!
written by: Melanesia Hunter
Sometimes I wish people would just let the music speak for itself…no hype…no bias…not what’s “hot” right now, which label you’re signed to, who’s co-signing you, what designers you’re wearing… none of that trendy, “customer” bullshit…Just listening to the raw, beautiful, undeniable talent and letting the art speak for itself!
- Music is powerful…
- It’s universal…
- It’s a necessity!
It ‘expresses that which cannot be said…’ In the words or our good ole musical god Jimi Hendrix, “Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.”
I honestly believe that the energy we are manifesting will be powerful…powerful enough to inspire the masses…powerful enough to change lives.
With that being said, the four men gracing this very 1st cover of Twenty7 Magazine are known as BOBBY CHURCH …I know we are a new magazine, and I know you may not be aware that we are the new tastemakers and we ALWAYSSSSS “GOT THA JUICE!!” but… Mark my words… BOBBY CHURCH is about to set the world on fire!!!!!!
I don’t think they are making music for the times or trends…or for acceptance into any specific genre…I feel that these four are making music to free themselves and to feed their souls and the souls of whoever is willing to just let the music speak for itself.
The music will reach. The 1st time I heard a thirty minute set I cried….no bullshit either…I remember it like yesterday. I had crashed their rehearsal the day before the cover shoot to prep them and to try to get a glimpse of the show since I had never heard an entire body of music from them. (For the most part I had heard a song here and a snippet there)… Ok so back to the story…. I come in, sit down…pull out my laptop, and continued working and doing things to prep for the next day. I was multitasking like nobody’s business…but the music…the music was so powerful it commanded my attention. I remember the exact moment it happened…. I was texting someone very dear to me…inviting her to come out to the shoot. In the midst of me telling her why I wanted her to come… I mentioned how I was at their rehearsal at the moment and I was trying to describe the music……. needless to say I couldn’t…..instead I just stared at my phone while tears just streamed down my face because I was overwhelmed…..I FELT it….song after song ….It was perfect…and undeniable…and I think that’s what brought me to tears lol. Because I knew…. I knew then I was witnessing four musicians that were destined to be musical Icons.
I know, I know….I have been talking and talking..and I haven’t even introduced the band members yet…but I want you to understand how inspired I am by this group of musicians and fathers, and I want you to feel the experience until you can experience the experience for yourself!
Sometimes I wonder…Is it possible to fall in love with something…a song, a band, a person even… without knowing who is singing it, or knowing what they look like? Is it possible for music to just touch your soul and you become a fan without being swayed by what the artists wear, who they date, or how many followers they have on Instagram? I guess that’s what’s so cool about being a brand new magazine featuring a brand new band. We are not confined…we make our own rules…we do what feels good…we do what we want…we fight for what we believe in, and we will never compromise our art. We all know by now…that all great things had small beginnings. #whoisbobbychurch just seemed to come naturally because every time I talked about them someone asked me that question. Instead of answering them with words….I would always just play the music and let them be the judge. You can’t fit BOBBY CHURCH into a genre…or a box… It’s a feeling…and feelings change…sometimes they’re hot and sometimes they’re cold…sometimes they’re sexy…sometimes sad…sometimes kinda rowdy…sometimes kinda mellow…. Life is not just black and white…and music doesn’t have to be either. Whatever feels good to you ….is what you should do.
So after hearing 1 or 2 songs…seeing a video….hearing my rant… You guys should be able to talk to me via all social media sites @twenty7magazine … and hashtag #whoisbobbychurch #twenty7magazine because I want to know what you felt the first time you got a teaser! Share your stories!!! Because I sure as hell just shared mine! lol
Now that I got that off my chest … I’ll do the honors and Introduce BOBBY CHURCH!!!
Its like that ‘ah ha’ moment you get when everything clicks and you finally “get it”… you finally really understand that everything happens for a reason quote you’ve been hearing all your life. And you realize…the moment something just fits so perfectly…why nothing else worked. It’s because “It was written…” These four traveled high and low on their own individual career paths …but the music makes me feel like it was meant to be…everything that they have experienced has brought them here, and I think…they are about to make history!!!
Lovers, Rockers, Rebels, Father’s, Revolutionaries, Creators…..
The lead vocalist is quite a character. Some of you may be familiar with his vocals and buns already from his debut single ‘Till the End of Time’. Leaving a career as a solo artist has not stifled him or his ability to create timeless music. Singer, songwriter, producer, and multi instrumentalist(piano, drums, guitar) Timothy Bloom is still in raw form with Bobby Church. You may be a fan of his work and not even know it. If you’re a Chris Brown fan and you loved the FAME album…. yours truly wrote, produced, and won a grammy for ‘ALL BACK’. And I’m more than sure Neyo’s ‘Say It’ has made it to a few mattress mixes, and he received a grammy for that one as well! Timothy Bloom has something special and he has already created a unique fan base who appreciates his raw talent and undeniable soul.
Josh Paul is on Bass. And boy is he amazing! I think the last BOBBY CHURCH show I went to I ended up in somewhat of a trance for a good 96 seconds… amazed at the love Josh was making to his bass. lol He’s a world traveled bass player with a loyal fanbase of his own already. Josh has played with super successful rock band Daughtry, and has played with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Everlast, Kelly Osbourne, The Veronicas and DJ Samantha Ronson. Josh Paul also sings, produces, and plays multiple instruments. The amount of talent in this one group is damn near overwhelming!
both Josh and Tim are sons of Pastors. Hence the name #bobbychurch
Matt Holmes and Pat Besecker …(now this part gets interesting because of the story that Matt and Pat told me…. I’m gonna try my best to refurbish it!)
Matt Holmes, vocalist/guitar and Pat Besecker, drums, were in a band called the Underwater…the Underwater was around for 8 years…toured the world and released multiple records. Long story short they played a couple of shows with Daughtry…Josh became a big fan of the band and invited Matt out to write with him in L.A. …. and he did. They kept writing together for about two more years…during the course of those two years the underwater broke up. Shortly after Josh said he was writing with this really cool cat Timothy Bloom sometime in (2010)…and asked Matt to come out again…Matt had never met Tim and didn’t know anything about him or his story but he flew out anyway. That week Josh’s mom got diagnosed with cancer…. so the week Tim and Matt met Josh was going through this crazy period in life so they all started writing about it…the song they ended up creating is called I’m Alive…. “no one has ever heard it but its fuckin amazing” -Matt Holmes
In about 2 to 3 weeks the three of them had recorded so many amazing records….Blood Rain being one of them……Timothy was so inspired by Blood Rain that he wanted to shoot a video immediately…. but there was only one problem…. they needed a drummer for the video. It just so happened to be around the same time Matt was having his Bachelors Party. Matt told the others his best friend would be in Cali and that he could do it. Pat came in…they shot Blood Rain. Tim ended up loving the way Pat played drums so he was like Pat should just play with them. So Matt, Josh and Pat ended up backing Tim up for the next 6 months getting his project off the ground for his Interscope release… and then shit got complicated…Matt had a baby on the way..and Josh had to go on the road with Daughtry… fast forward to a year later… Josh and Tim called Matt one day and was like “yo man we gotta get this band shit together ..and not like a band backing up a singer…but all of us… as “The Band””. They all got on a 3 way call and decided that they were gonna do BOBBY CHURCH …. They were gonna start right away but Pat and Matt had to go to Asia and Australia to play with Their former band Sinclarity …..They said they would start on BOBBY CHURCH when they got back…and they did….BOBBY CHURCH was officially born some day in Jan of 2013…….
Welp!!! Guess now you know who BOBBY CHURCH is! All it’s going to take is for you to meet one of them or all of them…or to be in the presence of them creating or playing music. Their vibe is amazing…. The Bobby Church aura is one that I’m still at a lost for words for…It’s that type of energy you actually just need to experience for yourself to be able to understand. Lovers, Rockers, Rebels, Father’s,Revolutionaries, Creators,Free Birds…its like that energy that’s so familiar…so relatable…so much of everything that we all are…its radiating…its mysterious… its raw… it feels so natural it seem effortless… and at the end of it all….the bottom line is the music that is being created is undeniable!
